Sonic Generations - Trailer Series

A whole a lot of Sonic and that's cool with me

"Genesis Era" Trailer

"Dreamcast Era" Trailer

"Modern Era" Trailer

Ok, I have to get this off my chest - I LOVE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. Phew, that's better. In November of this year (literally around the corner, thank goodness) Sega will be releasing Sonic Generations in celebration of our favorite blue speedster's 20th birthday. First thought, video games are actually kind of old now. Second thought, I'm older than Sonic, and my joints hurt.

But really, this is a very enticing package. HD updates to old Genesis stages (I was OMG'ing to way too many stages that I recognized) along with remastered Dreamcast and Modern stages, along with more original content? Just show me where to sign, I don't need to read the fine print. I know that the modern games aren't exactly critically acclaimed, but it's Sonic, and I want to give him a birthday present by playing the crap out of this game.

Will you be picking up Sonic Generations? Or do you think this is a lame attempt for Sega to make more money?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - "Redemption" Trailer

Captain Price is PISSED: A New Musical

Call me naive, but I just can't wait to get this game. I understand the Battlefield/COD argument. I understand that people are fed up with the COD games being essentially the same game wrapped in a different package. But seriously, it just looks so dang pretty. I don't care that there hasn't been much done visually between the games of the series, the story looks bigger than ever and I'm pumped to get my hands on it.

This single player trailer shows the world going to hell one explosion at a time. It starts with a voice over from our favorite Russian antagonist, Makarov, essentially saying that he's meant to cause a world war ever since day one. Getting over how messed up that is, Captain Price steps in to offer his own two cents, and he's promising to kick that Russian's tail up and down the globe.

From what I can see from this trailer is that we'll be fighting through multiple locations through the whole world in order to stop Makarov from blowing everything to hell. I noticed London, New York City, and the freaking Eiffel Tower getting blown to bits in the two minutes this trailer runs for, and that's only a preliminary sweep. Call of Duty promises World War Three, and that's exactly what we're going to get.

Top Five Tuesday 10/4

My Top Five Super Smash Bros. Characters

My friends and I have been playing a lot of N64 as of late. Specifically, the classic Super Smash Bros. As we say there and argued about the best characters to use, I started to think about who my top five favorite characters to use are, spanning across every Smash that's been released. Now remember, these were my favorites to use, not necessarily the best of all time. And here we go!

#5: Link (Gamecube)

Link was honestly the only character that I enjoyed playing as on the gamecube version of Smash. The addition of his bow and arrow and airborne side smashes were huge upgrades from the N64 Link, making him a bit more accessible to my style of play. Add a little extra mobility and Link is my gamecube go-to.

#4: Captain Falcon (N64)

One word, spiking. I am such a fan of spiking I take every opportunity to hop off of the edge to the stage, try and hit a character down off the map, and attempt to get back on the ledge. I've died more times that I'd like to admit doing this, but nothing is more satisfying than a well executed spike. The captain was a master of this on the N64 version, and that's why I love using him.

#3: Diddy Kong (Wii)

I won't lie, I have a strange reason for loving Diddy so much. I have a severe peanut allergy, and Diddy has a peanut gun. That was literally the only reason I used him for the first time. Then I discovered that he can jump on peoples faces and perform airborne spikes. Not to mention his sideways B is like an extra jump when knocked off the stage. He's been my Wii backup character ever since.

#2: Sonic (Wii)

The only reason Sonic isn't number 1 is because of my longstanding relationship with my overall winner. But man, Sonic is fun to play with. He's easily the fastest character on the stage at any given time, and can definitely surprise with his power, especially with a side smash or an airborne backwards A attack. I may not get many KO's but I do damage, which is why Sonic is my Wii go-to.

#1: Mario (N64)

If you've ever played the OG Smash with me, you know that I go hard with Mario. Throwing is really important in the original game, and Mario's is one of the best. I don't consider myself a spam thrower, but an opportunist thrower. If you give me the daylight, you will be spinning in the opposite direction. This paired with a decent amount of agility and power makes Mario my favorite Smash Bros. character.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations - "The Life of Ezio" Trailer

New locations, same thick Italian accent

This games needs to just come out already. The story is all but set up, there's a solid minute and a half of Ezio kicking serious tail, and I'm impatient and want to play it already. I expect big things out of the conclusion of the trilogy, and this trailer promises that big thing will indeed be happening.

One thing I noticed: the violence seems to be super stepped up in this game. Way more blood than I'm used to seeing in AC, and definitely the first decapitation I've ever seen in the series. This is not a complaint by any means, in fact it makes more sense this way. A weapon as brutal as the hook blade isn't going to leave a little scratch, it's gonna make you bleed for days. Is it November 15th yet?

Forza Motorsport 4 - Endangered Species Trailer

Baby, you can drive my car

If done well, live action trailers can be a powerful thing. And this trailer was done very, very well. I almost felt sad for this guy the entire time. His struggle with the crowded nature of life and love for speed almost felt like a doomed romance. Even when he got in his car and tried to go fast like he loves to, there were obstacles preventing him from really getting up to speed. It made me long for an open road as much as he did, and there was a legitimate feeling of sadness when his quest for speed was ended.

Enter the last clip of the trailer, where it turns to animation and you see his car alone on the open road. This trailer offers an escape for gamers, away from the crowded city streets into a fast car by yourself, with no one around to stop you. It was beautifully done, and this game is going to be gorgeous.

SSX - Defy Reality Trailer

Apparently we can snowboard on the moon

I'm going to look past the fact that I started singing "Wicked" when I first saw the title for this trailer (thanks, Emerson College). I for one could not be happier that there is another SSX game coming out soon. The trailer looks gorgeous, the mountains are bigger than ever, and the tricks make even less sense then they did in previous games. But then again, that's the allure of SSX.

This trailer was all about big air, bigger air, and "that just doesn't look right" big air. A bit of confusion hit when the boarder was travelling at a pretty moderate speed, then all of a sudden LAUNCHES into the air off of a jump, almost hitting the helicopter at what the pilot must have thought was a safe distance. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of insane tricks that wouldn't be normally possible and huge air, but I want it to look a little more natural than that.

Then again, the trailer is called "Defy Reality", so maybe that's the point of these ridiculous jumps. If that's the case, color me hesitant. What do you think? Would you rather see your person launch off each jump with the force of a jet pack, or would you rather see a little realism?

Syndicate - Announcement Trailer

My mind is blown in so many different ways after watching this trailer. But let's hit the basics first: In the not too distant future, corporations (what they do is a total mystery) are at war with each other and hire agents to obtain what I can only imagine is information that will get them ahead of the game. So this agent whose identity is nothing more then Agent Kilo, is running around shooting and manipulating people in order to obtain said information.

Now let's get to the good stuff. The gun play looked super smooth, and the fact that the same gun had different sights for different types of shooting is awesome. He walks into a dude getting interrogated by two bad guys, manipulates one into shooting his buddy via some jedi mind trick (I make way too many Star Wars references) then gets him to off himself. He extracts a chip out some guys brain after killing him. HE SHOOTS AROUND A FREAKING WALL. Too much crazy action in two minutes.

Oh, and the song is by Skrillex. This whole thing is a giant win.
